Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Class size limit is 20 students. The three’s class is taught by a qualified Early Childhood Education teacher and two teacher’s aides. In addition, two co-op parents are scheduled to help daily. Therefore the adult to child ratio is 1 to 4! St. John’s Episcopal Preschool is a parent co-operative preschool which allows for parents to help in the classroom for reduced tuition. There are 10 co-op positions available, and 10 private positions available for the Three’s program.
Activities for each day are planned around some concept or theme. Some concepts used include colors, trees, weather, seasons, food, holidays and shapes. Academic subjects are incorporated into the activities that are made available to the children each day. Social and emotional development and positive self-esteem are strongly emphasized.
8:40 – 9:00 Set Up: Co-op parents, aides and the teacher work together to prepare for the day’s activities.
9:00 Preschool Begins! Please walk your child into the preschool, hang coats on hooks, and pin a name tag on your child. Also at this time, the children “sign-in” as they begin to learn to print their name.
9:00 – 10:00 Developmental Play/Centers: During this time, the children are free to choose their own activities. In the Art Room children will find many activities to fuel their creative ideas, easels for painting, markers, play dough, and a sand or water table. The Activity Room has games, puzzles, a play kitchen, dress up area, a reading area, a writing area, and other fine motor activities. The Block Room has a variety of large and small blocks, wooden trains, large trucks, a slide, a climber, and a wooden boat. The Foyer is the place for large motor activity with tricycles or other activities each day. In addition, one or two centers are set up daily pertaining to the topic of study. The children will become self-reliant and visit these centers daily. They will cover art, literacy, math, science, and motor skills with an emphasis on hands-on discovery, creativity and just plain fun!
10:00 – 10:30 Clean Up, Story Time: After all the toys have been put away, the children and teacher gather together in the Foyer to rest, read a book, and discuss the topic of study.
10:30 – 10:40 Hand Washing: Before snack time, the children will be escorted to the bathroom to wash their hands. A bathroom is always available during developmental play time.
10:40 – 10:50 Snack: Small nutritious snacks will be provided by the preschool from donations collected from each family. Children sit at the table with their peers and adult helpers and enjoy eating and talking together. The children will be dismissed after snack and after their name tags have been removed to go to the Foyer for music time with the teacher.
10:50 – 11:00 Music Time/Outside Play: The children enjoy music and large motor activity while singing and dancing to music. When weather permits, we may use this time to play outside in our wonderful, enclosed play yard.
11:00 – 11:15 Coats, Backpacks, Curbside Pick-Up: The children will get on their coats and backpacks, and line up outside alongside the brick wall to be picked up.
